From our LEO

A CLOSING CHARGE:

Brethren:
We are about to quit this sacred retreat of friendship and virtue, to mix again with the world.

Amidst its concerns and employments, forget not the duties which you have heard so frequently inculcated, and so forcefully recommended in this
Lodge. Be diligent, prudent, temperate, and discrete.

Remember that around this altar, you have promised to befriend and relieve every brother who shall need your assistance. You have promised, in the most friendly manner, to remind him of his errors and aid his reformation. These generous principals are to
extend further.

Every human being has a claim on your kind offices. Do good unto all. Recommend it more especially "to the household of the faithful."

Finally brethren, be ye all of one mind: live in peace; and may the God of love and peace delight to dwell with and bless you.

Written by Charles F. Bahnson, P.M. Assistant Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina in 1892, later The Grand Master of N.C.

Upcoming Lodge Events/Items in July - August

1.      The Steering Committee is still working on the By-Laws for our lodge about the dates in which we meet.  With some guidance from the Grand Lodge and misunderstanding on my part the committee needs to reword the proposed statement that we originally came up with.  For July, we notified the Grand Lodge that we will NOT be meeting on July 4th (holiday) and we will hold our stated communication on Saturday, July 15th.  Breakfast will be at 7:00am and meeting at 8:00am.

2.      The Steering Committee and lodge have also approved a $750.00 scholarship to Naomi Justica Nelson of Chaska.  The scholarship fund is from the Chaska Flower Sale.  We have also request matching funds from the Masonic Scholarship program for Naomi.  She will be starting Minnesota State University, Mankato this fall and will start her studies for Veterinary Medicine.  We have invited Naomi and her family to the Picnic on July 13th for a presentation.  She does have freshman orientation that day at school and will try to attend.

3.      We are working on an Awards Night Banquet for Brother Don Case who will be receiving a Hiram Award that evening.  Please watch for the special flier about that event to come out in late July.

4.      On July 13, we are planning the picnic with the OES to be held at the Lions Park in Shakopee.  The park is located just off of Mary’s Town Road and 169.  The picnic will start around 5:00 p.m. and the lodge will be grilling steaks and the OES will provide other picnic items to eat.  All you need to bring is plates, forks, spoons, and an appetite.  Please call Brother Gordy Bane if you have any questions at 952-447-2585

5.      On July 14th we will be participating with an event called Relay for Life.  This event is a fundraiser to raise money to help fight against cancer.  We will be putting together a carnival game, for kids to win prizes.  The carnival will start at 7:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m.  We can display information about the Masonic Lodge and will be a great way to promote Masonry.  This event will be at the Shakopee High School athletic field.  Please call Steven Scheffert at 952-707-0135 if you can help.

6.      We have been given the approval for us to participate in Derby Days on August 4-5 in Shakopee.  We will once again be serving Pork Burgers and Sweet Corn at this event.  Dick Friend will be the Chair for this event and will have a co-chair (TBD) to help.  He will start passing around a sign up sheet on the July 15th meeting.  Please sign up for a time when you can work.  We will be setting up the stand on Thursday, August 3 in the evening.  We need to man the booth on Friday, August 4 from Noon to 11 pm and then on Saturday, August 5 from 10am to 11 pm.  We need to have the stand back down on Saturday night after we close at 11:00pm.  The event will be in the parking lot across from Bill’s Tolgery.  The event will have an antique car parade on Friday and a parade on Saturday with Bands playing on both evenings.  Please call Dick Friend at 952-496-1910 if you have any questions.

7.      August 17th will be the Annual Chicken Fry Dinner with the Knights of Columbus of New Prague and our Lodge.  This is an event that has been taking place for over 30 years and was originally started with the King Hiram Lodge from Jordan.  The ticket prices for this event are $8.00 per person.  We will start at 6:30 social and 7:30 dinner.  It will be held at the KC Hall in New Prague, on Hwy 13, just south of the Hwy 13, 19 and 21 intersection.  We are also encouraging brothers to bring a guest to this event.  Don Conn will be handling the tickets for this event.  We should have tickets at the July 15th meeting for those that can make it.  Feel free to give a call to Don at 952-758-3506 for tickets to the event.  This event is a fundraising event between the two groups.  Over the past several years it has been the KC’s to make motions to donate the money to the Shriners Children Hospital in St. Paul.  So please attend this wonderful event you will have a great time.

As you can see we have a lot of events that we are trying to promote with our lodge.  I will continue to promote these events throughout the summer and update the items on the calendar that we send out with the newsletter.  Feel free to bring friends that you think may be interested in Masonry to these events.
