From our LEO
A FORCE FOR GOOD
Our lodges should maintain that high efficiency of moral rectitude, in both principles and
practices, which would be helpful and beneficial to the neighborhoods in which they are
located.
While masonry is neither religious, political nor financial, yet it should stand among all
these giving that moral support, to those just and correct relations, that each should
sustain to the other.
Masons, as men of the community, should in their conduct and conversation create and
maintain that healthy public opinion, that assures respect to our churches and sanctity to
our religion; that upholds our government and gives dignity to the enforcement of our
laws; that sustains our various industries, and promotes honesty and fair dealings in all
our financial relations; that creates the community stamina and loyalty; that brings peace
and security to our homes, and joy and happiness to our hearts.
Dick Friend. LEO
Masonic Flower Sale
As many of you read in the last newsletter the lodge is planning a flower sale in
Chaska in May. PLEASE MAKE A NOTE THAT THE DATE OF THIS HAS CHANGED TO MAY 6. The
location of this event will be held at the SW METRO Station in Chaska, located by the
Auburn Manor and the Theater in Chaska. The time for the event is still from 7:00 am
3:00 pm. We would like to encourage those that can make it to help to call WM Gordy
Bane, Tom Hone or Steven Scheffert to let us know what time you would like
to work. Their telephone numbers are at the top of the newsletter. You can work 1 hour
or the whole day if you would like. We would need the most help around 7:00 am and 1:00 -
3:00 pm as we unload and reload the truck.
We also have available gift certificates that we can sell to others that can be
redeemed at Holasek Greenhouses in Chanhassen. The gift certificates can be used between
May 1, 2000 and December 31, 2000. If you are interested in some gift certificates please
call WM Gordy Bane or pick them up at the day of the sell.
The sale will also be ran in several local papers that will promote this fundraising
event. Please look for them as you can promote this to people that you know in the area.
Help a Brother and Road Clean Up Day
Another event that has been planned in May is the Help a Brother and Road Clean Up Day.
This event will take place on May 13, 2000. We would like to start the day off at 7:00 by
meeting at the lodge hall and having some breakfast and fellowship.
After which we will be going to Brother Bob Slaviceks house in Jordan for the
First Annual MN River Valley Lodge #6 Help a Brother Day. We will be working around
Bobs to help clean up the yard and then making a few need repairs to the house.
We will also try to form a second group to go to Chaska to work on our Adopt A Highway
section. This group will pick up the trash along the one mile stretch of Hwy 212 west of
Chaska.
If you have any questions about the Help a Brother event, you can Brother Don Conn at
(952)758-3506. If you have questions about the Road Clean Up event, you can call Brother
Arnie Peterson at (952)448-4950.
Jobs Daughters News
Greetings from Bethel 85!
April has been a busy month for the Girls. They have been involved in Grand Bethel
which was held at Craguns in Brainard, participated in the Flag ceremony at Grand Lodge,
participated in a fundraiser with the Shriners at their pancake breakfast. They helped
Initiated new members at Bethel 17 in Owattana, Held a meeting on 17 April Honoring
Parents and Masons, And done it all with much enthusiasm and fun. We look forward to our
Elections to be held on 1 May 2000 at 7:00p.m. and Initiation which is scheduled to be
held on 21 May 2000 (time to be determined). We would also like to wish everyone in the
Masonic Family a very Happy Easter and let you know you are always welcome to come visit
Bethel 85. Our meetings are held the first and third Mondays of each month.
Respectfully submitted, Mike Pierce Associate Bethel Guardian, Bethel 85 IOJD
Again we must pass along the sad news that; we lost two more Brothers of our Lodge.
Brother Elmer Huber, who joined us from King Hiram Lodge #31 in Jordan and Brother Don
Libby, who was from King Solomon Lodge #44 in Shakopee.
There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, June 3rd for Don Libby at
the Lodge Hall in Shakopee. More details will follow in the newsletter in May about this
event.
Financial Committee Report
The Financial Committee will meet on April 25 at Clancys Bar and restaurant in Jordan
at 7:30. Several items must be decided, do not forget this date.
Charles Richter Financial Committee Chairman
From the West
I would like to promote a few more events that will be happening in May and a little
bit about June. The first event is the next lodge meeting. At the next lodge meeting we
will hold the election of officers for the next lodge calendar year (June May). We
will be electing the following positions:
- Worshipful Master
- Senior Warden
- Junior Warden
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Trustee - 1
- Trustee 2
- Trustee 3
- Trustee 4
- Trustee 5 (Out Going Master)
The number behind the Trustee is the numbers of years that they will have left to
serve. Each year the Trustees will move up in their years of term remaining and the out
going Master will fill in the number 5 spot. Please plan on attending this night to elect
the new officers to lead the lodge.
The second item that I would like to promote is the pre-planning meeting with the
Knights of Columbus and Mason chicken dinner that is held in New Prague. This was an event
that King Hiram Lodge #31 started over 30 years ago with the Knights of Columbus in New
Prague. We will be meeting on June 5 at 7:30 pm at Richters Woods in Montgomery. Take Hwy
13 to Montgomery and turn right at the Car Wash (County Rd 26) and follow the road about
2-3 miles and then take a left to Richters Woods. It is a County Park and there are
signs that will indicate its location. I will have these directions again in the next
newsletter.
There are other events and many summer activities that are being planned by the
Membership Committee that will make this upcoming year a lot of fun. We will have much
more in the next newsletter about the summer events and meeting dates.
See you at the next lodge meeting:
Steven Scheffert
Senior Warden
