CHILD
IDENTIFICATION
PROGRAM,
The following articleis from the Grand Lodge KIDsID
program. Minnesota River Valley Lodge
has is program and equipment reserved for THE SHAKOPEE SHOWCASE AT CANTERBURY DOWNS ON APRIL 24, 2001 AT 6 PM -
8 PM THIS IS A TUESDAY EVENING. Last year this event had 2500 people attend.
This event has been
each year for the past 27 years. The only cost is manpower.
The new KidsID program has already been used at several lodge and community
events and at least one county fair. The response to the program has
been overwhelmingly positive. This includes the response
from the local lodges working on the events and the response of the families
the program has served. One universal characteristic of each site where the
equipment has been used is a line of families waiting patiently to have their
children's
diskette made. Even in those instances where the family has had to return at a
later time of date they remain very favorable impressed by the program.
The basic program consists of a laptop computer, digital camera, digital
fingerprint reader and a color printer.(kidded sample) We have already added a
set of institutional quality scales and a banner to
promote the site. the local lodge simply have to add manpower and the program
is up and
running!
While many parents whose children have benefited from this program have asked
if they can make a donation, this is not a fund raising event. This is
a community service program and may well be the most successful community service program we have been involved
with since the scholarship programs were put into service.
We are learning from each use of the program and every site coordinator is
encouraged to make their recommendations to improve the program. What we
have learned so far is the importance of advance preparations. Contact other
local businesses to see if they would like to sponsor the purchase of
supplies. Put up flyers in local storefronts and other businesses to advertise
the up coming event. At the dodge County Fair, Huram A'bi Lodge in
Kasson was able to note their presence on place-mats that were used at restaurants
throughout the county in the days and weeks leading up to the
fair. The Kasson Masons even had "important document" envelopes
printed with their name on them to hold
the diskette and printout that is given to every family with the admonition that
they be taken home and stored in a safe place.

Evaluating
Stocks on Today’s Performances
This is taken from the Motley Fool, a syndicated article
published in the Mankato Free Press, 3/27/01.
What should I do if I bought some
stocks at their all time high? Just sit tight?
Online at Fool.com, community member Vinay Kumar offered a terrific answer to this
question: I think it’s irrelevant what
you paid for the stocks that you own now.
Those transactions were in the past and the purchase prices are sunk
costs. It doesn’t matter if you paid
$70 per share for Cisco Systems; your shares are selling for about $22
now. If you think Cisco is worth more
than that, then hold it (or consider buying it); if you think it’s worth less,
than sell it.
Your purchase price should have nothing to do with your
decision. Well, it has a little
relevance, because it has tax impacts.
If you sell a stock that’s way on the red, you recoup some of the
capital loss.
Use your mistakes in the past to learn lessons (I certainly
have), but don’t look at your portfolio today. Don’t stubbornly hold onto Cisco
(or Yahoo or anything else) because you can’t fetch your original purchase
price. Don’t sell it just because it’s
down so much. And certainly don’t buy it just because it’s worth so much less
that its 52 week high. Evaluate each stock on how it looks today.
Cribbage and Brotherhood.
About 12 brothers stayed after the meeting on March 17 and
began celebrating St. Patrick’s Day early with cribbage and snacks. A good time was had by all and more events
are being planned that are fun and a way to get to know your brothers. Keep
reading the newsletter and checking the calendar for upcoming events.
From your LEO,
Brother Friend
My Brother, Masonry means more
Than just to wear a pin,
Or carrying a dues receipt
So the lodge will let you in.
You wear an emblem on your coat,
And on your hand a ring.
It's just an outward sign to show
The world that you belong
What really counts lies buried deep
within the human breast;
Masonic teaching brings it out
And puts it to the test.
If you can do outside the lodge
The things you learn within,
Be just and upright to yourself
And to your fellow men -
Console a Brother when he's sick,
Or help him when in need,
Without a thought of a reward
For any act or deed -
Conduct yourself in such in such a way
The world without can see,
None but the best can meet the test
Laid down by Masonry.
Respect and live up to your trust
And do the best you can;
Then you can tell the world you are
