Greetings
from the East
At the last meeting on Saturday we went over last years
financial audit. Not one of the Committee Chairmen turned in a report on their
activities so we don’t have a very good basis to set next year’s budget. So, I
will have to wing it:
Expense Budget for 6.1.01 – 5.31.02
Fixed Expenses
Rent $4,080
Cleaning $ 770
Insurance $ 400
Newsletter & Web $3,000
Variable
Expenses
Membership Committee $4,000
Financial Committee $ 500
Properties Committee $ 500
Donations $4,000
Supplies (1 year) $1,000
Equipment (+ 1 year) $6,000
Misc.
$ 750
Total $25,000
I have copies of the audit report so if any lodge member
would like to read it they are welcome to do so.
Fraternally yours,
Don Reick WM
Kid’s I.D. Program
MN River Valley Lodge did 200 kids ID at the Scott County
Fair, thanks to all that worked this project and made it successful. This was well
accepted by the public and they stood in line without too much complaining.
Thanks,
Don Case
Membership and/or
Activities Committee
We have talked about it, but we just have not been able to
get the members together for a formal meeting this month. This month we will
get it done.
In one way or another our committee has had a hand it
helping plan, organize, and participate in the summer picnic, K-days in
Montgomery, and the Kids ID program at the fair. The members of the committee
would like to give a great big thank you
and well done to all the brothers that worked so hard to make the recent
events a big success. Special note should go to:
Picnic - Mike Pierce,
Marvin Jakes and Dallas Horejsi
K-days – too many to
mention, but especially Bill Boyle for heading up the project
Kids ID - George
Miller and Don Case did a super job.
Thank you Brothers for caring enough to participate.
Upcoming events are the:
Mason – Knight
Chicken Dinner on Aug 16th
This is held at the K-C hall in New Prague. Social hour
starts at 6:00 Dinner at 7:00 and program to follow. I don’t need to remind you just how social those knights can be;
it will be a great time.
Fishing trip - Stay tuned for further developments – I
know Gary Eagen and Jim Hedya are planning a great event.
Kolacky Days Result
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the
Brothers who came to Montgomery to help with our Kolacky Days celebration and
fundraiser. I don't have the final figures in yet, but the initial returns are
leading us to believe that this was one of the most profitable events yet. This
does not just happen without a tremendous amount of work on many Brothers part.
Brother Dallas Horejsi did a tremendous job heading up the stand construction. MRVL was the talk of the food venders and
the envy of most. Several Brothers put in many hours of hard work over the
weekend cooking, selling and traveling to pick up materials as well as cleaning
up.
Thanks to Marc Peterson and Marvin Jakes who helped
me tremendously when I had other commitments and needed someone to attend
meetings and run. We can always use lots more help on this weekend and we need
more Brothers to help run the stand. Many hands make a heavy load light, plus
we feel sorry for those of you who don't show
up and miss all of the fun we have. As a good Mason, I cannot feel right about
keeping this a secret from those of you who were not in attendance. Again, a
sincere thank you to all of those who helped so graciously with this event.
Bill Boyle, Kolacky Chairman
Rudyard Kipling, who was honored as the poet laureate of the
British Empire and lived in the time of Queen Victoria, was devoted to Masonry.
Kipling writes of the universality of Masonry in his poem titled “The Mother
Lodge”. See it here in next months Newsletter. Hope to see you at the next
meeting!
