Minnesota River Valley Lodge #6 April 2003 Volume #5, Issue #3 "Issued with the Permission of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Minnesota"
TABLE LODGE: A Huge Success! From the Activities Committee The activities committee would like to start by thanking Brother Steve Johnson for the wonderful job he did as the Master of the Table Lodge. Brother Steve kept the crowd entertained the entire evening with his great sense of humor and substantial knowledge of Masonic history and stories. The evening started out with great fellowship and pre-toasting amongst the Brothers, their ladies, and guests. Thanks to the efforts of Brother Bill Allen we were able to enjoy the music of a three-piece orchestra, which provided some excellent entertainment throughout the entire evening. Brother George Miller gave one of the most outstanding presentations on what it means to be a Mason that it has been my privilege to hear. Brothers, we are truly fortunate to have such a talented orator in our lodge. As another highlight of the evening, our newest brothers, Allen Greene and Mike Sullivan were presented with their Masonic and lodge pins. Brother Dave Scheffert did an outstanding job of welcoming these new brothers in the lodge in true Masonic form. In addition to those already mentioned, a special thanks goes to Brothers Mike Kottwitz and his wife Robbin, Mike Pierce and his wife Katie, Pat McClune, Jim Heyda, Don Conn, Gary Eagen, and my wife Kathy for doing the programs.
"Yogi-isms" -Submitted by Brother Dick Friend Yogi Berra, beloved catcher for the New York Yankees in the 1940’s was famous for his "Yogi-isms". Here are just a few: *A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore. *Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical. *If people don’t want to come out to the ballpark, how are you going to stop them? *I’m not going to buy my kids an encyclopedia – let them walk to school like I did. *It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future. *Nobody goes there anymore because it’s too crowded. *The future ain’t what it used to be. *You can observe a lot just by watching. *You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there. *When you get to the fork in the road – take it.
Update from the Web Master Submitted by Brother Steven Scheffert I would like to welcome some of you to my notification letter that I send out when the Lodge website is updated. I have received many new email addresses lately from Brother David Scheffert (my father) our Lodge Secretary as we are once again updating our Lodge Membership Database. With that in mind, many of my dad’s email addresses had just the address and we can not tell whom the actual Lodge Brother, or Friend of the lodge, is. Great job to those that were very creative. Within the next few weeks, you may receive an email from me asking you for your name so that we can match your email up with you in our information database. Please provide any help that you can. I have placed the latest newsletter out on the website and I have listed the 2002 newsletters in the archived newsletter folder. I am still working on a few more items for the web page and will notify you again as they are completed. Thanks and Fraternally Yours, Steven Scheffert
A Musical Opportunity Submitted by Brother Alan Greene Good day Brothers. I would like to invite you to an exciting musical treat: The South Metro Chorale Spring Concerts. I joined this group last fall just for the pure joy of singing. I found to my surprise, we sound awfully good. In fact, I’m sorry to say, but it has kept me away from Lodge on Tuesdays. However, it has been a terrific experience for me to be a part of something so beautiful. Now I want to provide you with the opportunity to hear this terrific Chorale.
