Minnesota River Valley Lodge #6 January 2003 Volume #5, Issue #1 "Issued with the Permission of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Minnesota"
TABLE LODGE RETURNS TO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAY SEASON The Table Lodge has been postponed until March 8, 2003. More details will follow in the February Newsletter. Saving for Retirement When You are Starting Late– Part 1 -Submitted by Brother Charles Richter The longer you procrastinate, the more you deprive yourself of financially retirement. For example, if you save $2,000 annually for 10 years beginning at age 25, you could have net savings of $523,344 at 9 percent interest. If you save $2,000 every year for 20 years beginning at age 45 you could have net savings of $84,844 at 9 percent interest. People say they procrastinate primarily because: *"I have too many debts" *"I can't afford to save because I don't have enough money" *"I can't save" *"I'll start saving for retirement after I’ve bought a house, saved for my children's education, etc. " This first-things approach leads to procrastination, which deprives people of the power of compounding. What do you do if you have been one of these procrastinators and find yourself getting a late start on saving for retirement? First, forget about early retirement. Postponing retirement savings makes early retirement all but impossible. Second, increase your savings program considerably. People who are in their 50s who have little or nothing saved for retirement may have to save 30 to 40 percent of their annual gross income. Extension Family Resource Management specialist offers a number of suggestions to free up more income for retirement saving. Read the next newsletter for the completion of this article.

Brother Dave Scheffert 802 E. Circle Drive Montgomery MN 56069 (metro) 507-364-5177 A word from the LEO Submitted by: Brother George Miller, LEO Note: I added Capitalization for emphasis. The following article appeared in an 1823 edition of THE OLD FARMERS ALMANAC published in 1823 in Andover, Massachusetts. "The real Freemason is distinguished from the rest of mankind by the uniform unrestrained rectitude of his conduct. Other men are honest in fear of punishment that the law might inflict; they are religious in expectation of being rewarded, or in dread of the devil in the next world. A Freemason would be just if there were NO laws, human or divine, except those written in the heart by the fingers of his Creator. In every climate, under every system of religion, he is the same. He kneels before the throne of God in gratitude for the blessings he has received; and in humble solicitations for his future protection. He venerates the good men of ALL religions; he disturbs NOT the religion of others. He restrains his passions because they cannot be indulged without injuring his neighbor or himself. He gives no offense because he does not choose to be offended. HE IS HONEST UPON PRINCIPLE." A happy and prosperous New Year is wished for ALL. Reminder 2003 dues are due. Please remit them as soon as possible. If you have any questions or did not received the mailing, please contact Brother Dave Scheffert at (507) 364-5177 or by email at davidscheffert@hotmail.com.
