A Message from the Master

We’re rollin’ now, so jump in, the water’s fine. Over the last couple of months it has come to be my opinion that there may be some lodges just as good, but not many better than our very own Minnesota River Valley Lodge #6. To start with, we have the pleasure of Welcoming a new Brother, Lou Price, into the lodge this month and to top it off, we did all the degree work ourselves (well almost.)

It is also my pleasure to announce we had a new Brother, Donald Moy, who was raised at the One Day to Masonry class in Fergus Falls. Wait there is more good news. There are a couple more petitions in the works right now!!

You have to admit the Grand Lodge of Minnesota really knew what they were doing when they awarded YOU, the Brothers of MRVL #6 a "Lodge of the Year" plaque in St. Cloud.

Brothers, look over the newsletter and see the things we have accomplished and better yet, the things we have coming up. This is not the same group that once met on a Tuesday night to decide whether or not to pay the electric bill. This is a group of men that are going somewhere and who take the meaning of Brotherhood, Fraternity, Friendship, and Dedication very seriously.

I am proud to be your Brother in MRVL #6 and a part of Minnesota Masonry.

Marc Peterson

Master

MRVL #6 Scholarships Awarded:

-Brother Gary Eagen

Minnesota River Valley Lodge #6 is proud to announce the recipients of scholarship awards presented to senior high students for the year 2004. The students receiving the awards will be given $500.00 to attend the college of their choice.

Brother Don Conn and I screened the many applicants. We would like to have given each student a stipend, however, that would be impossible.

That being said, the scholarship winners for 2004 are:

Jennifer Skluzacek – Jordan

Alyssa Skulborstad – Chaska

Wendy Jirik – Montgomery

Jennifer Kiewatt – Belle Plaine

Amanda Blaschko – New Prague

MRVL #6 congratulates the recipients and wishes them and all applicants the best of luck.

Change in the Operating Year!

Have you ever noticed that our lodge was just a little out of sync with the Grand Lodge? Call it tradition, or for whatever reason, our operating year ended in May. The Grand Lodge’s year ran with the calendar year and thus ended in December. This meant we were out of step with our dues, any awards, and programs that the Grand Lodge may be running.

To help alleviate this situation the procedure has been started to change our operating year to match the Grand Lodge. To make this work, the lodge needed to either extend, or shorten, the terms of set lodge officers. To keep in step with our current bylaws, at the last meeting, the current slate of officers were re-elected and appointed to serve a 6-month term. This means that there will be another election this December to elect new officers for the lodge. In the meantime, a committee to review and update our bylaws is being formed.

A Celebration!

You are cordially invited to attend an Open House Celebration for Charles & Shirley Richter’s 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, July 24, 2004 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at: Richter’s County Park, 35672 – 173 Ave, Montgomery, MN *No Gifts please*

Congrats to Brother Charles & Shirley Richter on celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary!

A Fiery Summons

A member of a certain lodge, who previously attended meetings regularly, stopped going. After a few months, the Master of the lodge decided to visit him. It was a chilly evening, and the Master found his brother at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire.

Guessing the reason for the Master’s visit, the brother welcomed him, led him to a comfortable chair near the fireplace and waited. The Master made himself comfortable, but said nothing.

In the grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around the burning logs. After several minutes, the Master took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth, all alone. Then he sat back in his chair, still silent.

His host watched all this in quiet contemplation. As the one, lone ember’s flame flickered and diminished, there was a momentary glow, and its fire was no more. Soon, it was cold and dead.

Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. The Master glanced at his watch and chose this time to leave. He slowly stood up, picked up the cold, dead ember, and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately, it began to glow once more, with all the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.

As the Master reached the door to leave, his host said, with a tear running down his cheek, "Thank you so much for your fiery summons, my brother. I’ll be back in our Lodge next meeting."

My Ballot

I stand at the same sacred altar

Where, prompted by brotherly love,

I vowed solemn vows without falter

Witnessed by Him from above.

As once I knelt there in rev’rence

I stand rev’rently there—

My thoughts have suffered no sev’rance,

As I vowed – so I’ll vote—on the square.

If through friendship I favor the seeker

But think him unworthy at heart –

Lest my Lodge by my ballot grow weaker,

Such favor from justice must part.

At the altar where light flooded o’er me,

I’ll betray not the trust that I bear,

I’ll shame no the emblems before me

But I’ll cast my vote on the square.

Or should he be not to my liking,

But merit by action the trust,

My soul I’ll not perjure by striking

A blow when such a blow be unjust.

But I’ll welcome his step ‘cross the border,

I’ll honor the trust that I bear,

I’ll vote for the good of the order

By casting my vote on the square.

Time flies – and ere long my petition

Will be filed in the Grand Lodge above

I’ll be glad then I tempered such mission,

With justice and brotherly love.

"With the measure ye mete" has been spoken

By the Worshipful Master up there –

No promise e’re made has He broken

And He’ll handle my case on the square.
