From the Masters Desk:

Dear Brothers and Masonic Family,

I have been sitting in the East since December '05. I thank you for this privilege. It is the highest honor I have received.  All of you are fine Masons and I draw my desire to serve well from you. With multiple responsibilities, it is not easy to find time for Masonry and yet you find the time and jump in to participate in a capacity that makes Masonry exciting for you. It makes the job of being Master enjoyable. I have appreciated the support of the Past Masters and my lodge brothers. I am indebted for your suggestions, support and gentle guidance. A special thank you to our Sisters and Daughters for their generous participation at our functions.  We benefit greatly from your mind and spirit.

I appreciate my officers. I thank each of you for having agreed to be in the Chairs. I have the enviable position of sitting in the East with you.  Think for a moment of the brothers who sat here before us over the centuries. Recall who some of these men were. It's inspiring.

The cumulative effects of fellowship and brotherly love allow us to work as a unit.  "...harmony is the strength and support of all societies, more especially of ours."  Our application of this principle and the vigor with which we apply it has been noted by visitors and The Grand Lodge leadership.

I repeat what I said upon first taking the East, with men of such good character, principles and wisdom I know we will succeed.  Thank you, I remain eager to serve.

As we remember our faith is in God, we draw courage and strength for the perils of our time.

The Chaplain’s Corner

Greetings to all my Brethren.  In this Newsletter, I am initiating a new and continuing column. I plan to discuss the spiritual nature of many of our rituals, perhaps impart some knowledge of Masonry that is worth remembering, and provide a place where we can petition our Creator and all of our Lodge members for the welfare of our brethren.

Please feel free to send me the names of any of our Brothers and/or their family members, who may be in distress as we pray to our creator for their comfort and relief. When we think of our experiences in taking the third degree, we cannot help but remember the words from Ecclesiastes: “Remember now thy creator . . .”   and please remember those listed below in your prayers.

For Healing and Support

For Thanksgiving

For Comfort

For Safety Far From Home

Bro. Buddy Schesso

Bobbie Wiggens (Bro. Schesso’s Sister)

Bro. Michael Pierce

For the family of Brother Norman Franks, who completed his journey on earth on July 4th.

For this inaugural issue, let me also offer a poem that I found meaningful.

Ready for my Last Degree

An old man lay sick in the Masonic Home.
His face was as wan as the white sea foam.
His eyes were dim, his hair was gray.
His back was bent with the trials of the way.
He faltering spoke, but I heard him say,
I’m ready for my last degree.
I’ve come to the end of the level of time
That leads us all to the Grand Lodge sublime
From whose borne none ever return.
More light in Masonry there I shall learn
By an Alter where light shall evermore shine.
I’m ready for my last degree.

With the Apprentice’s gauge,
I’ve divided my time Into three equal parts since life’s early prime.
And this I have found amidst life’s turmoil.
My wages are due me, in Corn, Wine and Oil.
I’m ready for my last degree.

Each day from life’s quarries, I’ve hewn a stone,
With the gavel I’ve shaped them, each one alone.
And shipped them along beyond that bright stand,
To build me a house in that great better land.
A spiritual house not made with hands.
I’m ready for my last degree.

I’ve squared each stone by the virtue square,
And plumbed them all true, as I shipped them there.
With the compass I’ve measured the Master’s designs
And kept within due bounds, with his points and his signs.
My blue prints are folded; I’ve answered his signs.
I’m ready for my last degree.

The Mortar I’ve made, from friendship and love,
To be spread with the Master’s trowel up above.
My apron is worn, but its surface is white.
My working tools now will be cold and quiet.
My Trestle Board’s bare, and I’m going tonight.
I’m ready for my last degree.

A few moments later, the old man was dead.
And I fancy that I could see his soul as it fled,
Upward and onward, to the great door,
Where he gave an alarm, and a voice did implore.
The old man gave his answer with these words once more,
I’m ready for my last degree.

That night in a lodge, free from all strife and storm,
He took that degree his last in due form.
So may I live like he did; to build day by day,
A spiritual house, in that land far away.
So I, when I meet my Grand Master I can say,
I’m ready for my last degree.

We name the welfare of our brethren in our petitions because we love them; knowing our own need of their prayers, we realize their need of ours.

Lodge Food Stand Report

The Food Stand has been very busy over the past month.  On June 24, 2006 the stand was set up at the Montgomery Fireman’s Dance at the Montgomery local Park.  It turned out to be a nice evening after a short rain, thanks to Brother Marc Peterson who happened to have his camper there so know one really got wet.  It was great to see all the Brothers who came to work, some one said there were over 20 Brothers.  It was about midnight that we sold the last Pork Burger, causing us to shut down the stand.  At this time the final expenses have not been finalized.

On June 30, 2006 the Lodge took the food stand to the Emergency Days at Le Center, MN.  They give us a great location for the stand.  The stand was restricted to only selling one item which the Pork Burgers were our special.  The 360 burgers that we brought for the evening did not last very long.  By 10:30 PM we had sold out.  The Lodge had asked the Emergency Day committee if we could sign up for next year, and they were happy to say YES.  After looking at the projected profit for the evening the Lodge voted to donate $200.00 dollars to the Le Center Ambulance equipment fund.  The Lodge gives big THANKS for all the brothers who worked those two nights.

Our next big event for the food stand will be the Montgomery Kolacky Days on the last week end in July.

More Kids ID Events

Kids ID will be at the Scott County Fair and at Kolacky Days in Montgomery and we need your assistance. This is a great chance to promote our entire Masonic Family. Help is always welcome from anyone who would like to lend a hand. Generally both venues are open from about noon to 6:00 PM, or so.

Mason's throughout Minnesota are praising a renewed interest in Masonry because of better public awareness of our fraternity. Some of it is obviously because of recent movies and books, but 30,000 families are exposed to one of the type of public services we offer in the KidsID program. That surely does not hurt our image that Masons Care about Families.

Please contact either George Miller or Lew Price if you can help.

Job’s Daughters Celebrate Installation

Job's Daughters Bethel 85 held their installation on Friday, June 30th at the Masonic Home.  Holding the event at the Masonic Home makes it far easier for many to attend who might not otherwise be able to do so. Ashley Bican was crowned Honored Queen for the third time.  Paulette Price was crowned Senior Princess and Kelly Seberson was crowned Junior Princess.  HQ Ashley's mascot for this term is Tinkerbell.  George Miller served as Master of Ceremonies for the event. The girls entered the room carrying small mirrors with their names on them.

We look forward to a fun term and hope that the Masons will join us whenever they can for our regular meetings and especially when we have an event planned.  We shall do our best to keep you informed when those shall be upcoming.

Passing of a Brother

Brother Norman Franks was born on 9/2/1923 and was raised on 5/25/1949 in King Solomon’s Lodge. He completed his journey on July 4th and passed into the light. He has now joined the ranks of workmen in that Great Lodge, not built by human hands.

Words to Live By

Work like you don’t need the money,

Love like you’ve never been hurt,

Sing like nobody’s listening,

And

Dance like nobody’s watching.

Minnesota River Valley #6 Has Agreed to

Charter a Local Boy Scout Troop

With great pride, I would like to announce that MNRV #6 has agreed to charter a Shakopee Boy Scout Troop.

As we begin chartering this venerable organization, we stand to gain much from this enterprise.  We will be able to assist children to become responsible adults by working with them on projects, activities, and meetings.  Many of us were Scouts earlier in our lives and now have an opportunity to provide education and assistance to youth.

The following is an excerpt from the chartering program from the “Community Organizations and Scout Councils” pamphlet, explaining some of the benefits to Scouting that we as a charter organization can provide:

“Scouting teaches skills that help youth develop into quality citizens. Organizations that are interested in nurturing youth for the betterment of the community will find Scouting to be a positive form of community outreach.

“The Boy Scouts of America grants charters to organizations such as churches, service clubs, and other community groups to operate Scouting groups. These organizations use the Scouting program for community outreach and to help them serve the needs of local youth. Scouting's time-tested, high-quality youth development program affords organizations higher visibility in the community and increased service to youth.

“Chartered organizations partner with local Scout councils to provide the support necessary for troop operations. When an organization adopts Scouting as part of its youth and community outreach program, a committee is formed and leadership is selected to organize and operate the troop in conjunction with the organization's special needs and desires. Councils provide program materials and literature, outdoor camping facilities, leadership training and field support, assistance in recruiting members, liability insurance, record keeping, and supplies such as uniforms, insignia, and awards.

More than ever, young people need the guidance and mentoring that Scouting provides. Scouting's constructive educational program is a healthy alternative to the negative influences youth face.”

A special thanks to Brother Keith Donaldson for volunteering to be our representative to the Scouting District and local scouting council.

Respectfully submitted,

Tim (T.J.) Berg

Meet the Masons Night is Coming Up

Brothers,

We are pleased to announce that Meet the Masons Night is scheduled for August 9, 2006 at 7:00 pm at the Lodge Hall.

We hope you can attend and welcome family, friends, and co-workers to join us for some fellowship and refreshments. Wives, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles will be very welcome.

We also would like to extend a warm invitation to friends of our newly admitted brothers to come and visit with us and learn about the charitable work that we do.

Thank you W.B. Gordy Bane, Chaplain Alan Green, and W.B. John Loutzenhiser for assistance with kicking off the event.

In the interests of cost cutting, may I prevail upon some of the brothers to bring a small dish to pass?  Mrs. Berg will supply a vat of chili for us and our guests.  If you would, please call or e-mail me with whatever it is that you plan to bring.  Bringing something is, of course, optional, but quite welcome.

We hope to see you there for our Meet the Masons Night.  Everyone’s presence will ensure that the event is a great success.

Fraternally,

Tim (T.J.) Berg

To all Pun Lovers – (with apologies to everyone else)

Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and were married.  The ceremony wasn’t much, but the reception was excellent.

Two peanuts walked into a bar and one was a salted.

Two cannibals are eating a clown.  One says to the other “Does this taste funny to you?”

I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day, but I couldn’t find any.

What do you call a fish with no eyes?  A fsh.

A dyslexic man walks into a bra.

Two fish swim into a concrete wall.  The one turns to the other and says “Dam!”

A jumper cable walks into a bar.  The bartender says, “I’ll serve you, but don’t start anything.”

And finally, there was the Brother who sent twenty different puns to his fellow Brothers, with the hope that at least ten of the puns would make them laugh.  But, alas, no pun in ten did.
