Minnesota River Valley Lodge #6 May 2006 Volume #8, Issue #5 "Issued with the Permission of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Minnesota"
Greetings Brothers, It is always my pleasure to call you brothers. The last stated communication was by all accounts an impressive event. It was the top event of the year, for we had the Grand Master Steve Johnson in attendance and 3 Past Grand Masters and visitors from 2 other districts. The Grand Master headed the presentation of an award to Brother Don Moy. We had the pleasure of getting to know WB John Loutzenhiser better. What a fantastic record of Masonic achievements were read. It took several minutes to list them off! The minutes of the meeting are posted on the website and I encourage you to read about it there. I want to say thank you to our secretary WB Dick Friend who did a fabulous job of recording that night's full list of activities. Brother Friend is doing a great job in a sometimes difficult role as secretary and we are very fortunate that we have him in that chair. I will be calling for the Trestleboard with suggested committees at the next communication. So please consider what is important to brotherly love, community and fellowship and choose to participate. Please turn yours in at the stated communication on June 6. We haven't yet seen enough volunteers to call any committee viable and may have to change our approach. As always may God keep, protect and give us wisdom. Mike Sullivan Worshipful Master
More Than Just A Stated . . . Tuesday, May 2, was much more than the regular stated meeting for Minnesota River Valley Lodge #6. We were favored by a number of celebrations, but most of all, to recognize the many years of contributions that WB John Loutzenhiser has made to Masonry and our Lodge. For a number of years John has been a regular member of the Lodge as well as our District Representative from the Grand Lodge. On Tuesday, after 11 years, John officially retired as our DM (he will be replaced by WB Dave Camp).
To celebrate, and to recognize John for his outstanding service, four Grand Masters attended our meeting and they took the chairs for the opening and closing of the Lodge. The Grand Masters included Steven R Johnson, Warren Clark, Neil Neddermeyer, and Phil Soderberg. Dave Camp introduced himself to the Lodge Members by taking the Junior Steward’s position for the meeting.
Other guests for this auspicious evening included:
John received a beautiful commemorative plaque honoring his meritorious Masonic service, from our current Grand Master, Steven R Johnson. To further share in his honor, he was joined by his wife Carolyn, his daughter Amy (who had flown in from Chicago to surprise him), and Corrie Growden, family friend and granddaughter of Glen Rollings (33rd degree).
Masonry and Scouting have had a long and supportive relationship. Brother Don Moy was awarded the Daniel Carter Beard Scouter award for his work with both Cub and Boy Scouts. This award is presented to members of the Masonic Lodge who act as role models and provide dedicated service to the young men in the Boy Scouts of America. Minnesota River Valley Lodge #6 also received very special praise through the production of a short film on our Lodge – describing the events leading up to the merger of four somewhat declining local lodges and the results which led to our new and vibrant Lodge #6. The DVD was shown to the members and guests and will be shared among the other Minnesota Lodges. We have even had a request for it from as far away as New Jersey. After all of the excitement and enthusiasm of the evening, we were in great need of sustenance. Fortunately, the good ladies of the Eastern Star were able to save us with a terrific ham dinner. Respectively submitted, Alan Greene, Chaplain, MRVL#6 Brethren, The weather is occasionally behaving as a benevolent creature now. It is time to take advantage of it and to talk about what the Masons, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Jobs Daughters can do together. GOLF Anyone? Anyone interested in organizing and participating in a day event of Scramble or Best Ball.... Come to the steering committee this Tues. the 23rd. BIKE-A -THON anyone? We have many miles of superb biking trails along the river front and elsewhere in the local area. An opportunity for our Masonic family to participate in a fun event and we have many clever and imaginative organizers between us I should think, who could convert this simple and fun activity into a community event or fund-raiser. Let’s continue to brainstorm ideas at the next steering committee over our next 7 months. Mike Sullivan WM

Booth
Minnesota River Valley Lodge # 6 has once again committed to work the Kids-ID booth at the State Fair. We have again committed to two (2) shifts this year, on Friday August 25, 2006. We need 8 volunteers for each shift. The first Shift is from 9AM to 1PM and the second is from 1PM to 5PM. Please contact Lew Price if you are interested in filling any of these slots by either phone (952-895-0820) or email (Lew.Price@Target.com) One question people frequently ask is "How is the weather?" The website “intellicast.com” provides information on local, regional, national, Atlantic, and Pacific weather. Submitted by: Daryl Bren
To all the Brothers, The much anticipated movie “The Da Vinci Code” is to be released on May 19th and all Brothers will not want to miss it. It is anticipated that there will be a heightened interest in Freemasonry because of it and it should provide an excellent opportunity for us to explain the real meaning of our fraternity to others. If not already doing so, all Brothers should be carrying a blank petition or two, just in case. Please see me if you need extras. I also have a few brochures entitled “Who Are the Masons, and What Do They Do?” for distribution to anyone you think might make a good Mason. Some brothers have asked about our current fees for conferring the degrees, which are: Fee to accompany the petition $25.00 Fee payable at the 1st Degree $20.00 Fee payable at the 2nd Degree $20.00 Fee payable at the 3rd Degree $20.00 Plus: Minnesota Masonic Foundation Assessment $12.50 George Washington Masonic National Memorial Assessment $5.00 (Both of these assessments must be paid to the Grand Lodge within 1 month of raising, and also apply to affiliations and restorations.) Total Fees $102.50 Richard Friend Secretary
